A few words about me

If my life is a novel, the link with Chinese calligraphy is an important story line.

I got in touch with Chinese brush and ink while I was 6 years old, at that time still living on a farm in North East China. I can still vividly remember that my childhood bedroom wall was decorated with my calligraphy and ink painting “art works”. My teenager years was spent in Beijing, full of textbooks, exams, and apart from that, reading and Chinese calligraphy. The serenity of long summer nights I spent practicing Chinese calligraphy, is still somewhere in my heart, and I believe it’s that peaceful state that dragged the adult me, after a decade spent in Western world, back to China to embrace this beautiful art form of Chinese calligraphy and ink painting. But this time, at a much deeper level.

In China, an old saying goes, at the age of 30, people finally become a capitalized Person, standing upright in this world - 三十而立. This is exactly what I feel. Coming back home at around 30, nurturing a daily ritual of practising Chinese calligraphy, reading ancient Chinese literatures, wandering around in the minds world of ancient cultured artists, has changed every aspect of my life. From a somewhat spoiled, ambitious and sometimes too self-conscious girl, I gradually start to establish balance and harmony in my body, my relationship and my career.

An intention to share the beauty of Chinese calligraphy, and the journey toward within, is the starting point of Zentitude. I wish the art form, and wisdoms which have nurtured me, can also reach to places outside China, and be useful to people who are searching their way towards balance, harmony, and Dao.
